Teufelsberg Song

A live performance recorded in the central radar dome of Teufelsberg (Devil's Mountain), an abandoned NSA Field Station located on the outskirts of Berlin, Germany featuring Australian artist Steven Aaron Hughes and Dimity Magnus.

Teufelsberg is a man-made hill, created in the wake of World War II, when debris from Berlin was moved to the site, covering up an incomplete Nazi military-technical college (Wehrtechnische Fakultät). It became the location of the Field Station during the cold war, a site to intercept and interpret Soviet communications.

The central radar dome is a echo chamber that is deeply resonant, sounds delay and reverberate into endless repetitions making it a very unique place to sing, record and make sounds in.

Since the reunification of Germany the site was abandoned and since considered for many private and community projects, none of which have come to fruition. It is currently occupied by a group of artists who have begun to rebuild the site, regrow gardens and encourage community events.
